Moving an exhibition is one thing. Moving priceless artifacts that have remained intact for more than three millennia is something entirely different. When we were tasked with handling some of the world’s most valuable cargo across the world, we knew we had to protect its integrity at all costs.

THE CHALLENGE

Relocating an entire priceless exhibition across continents in just four weeks

The organizers behind “Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs,” faced a significant challenge of relocating one of the world’s most valuable exhibitions from Cologne, Germany, to Tokyo, Japan.

The project involved moving priceless Egyptian artifacts dating back more than 3,500 years, including mummies, sarcophaguses, jewelry, and royal masks, along with approximately 25 truckloads of scenic set pieces, exhibition infrastructure, and merchandise.

With only four weeks allotted for the deinstallation, transportation, customs coordination, and reinstallation of the entire exhibit, the client demanded a logistics partner capable of providing a solution that delivered speed and complete asset protection.

Complicating the challenge further, every artifact required elevated security and continuous monitoring throughout the move.

THE SOLUTION

Protecting every high-value artifact across three parallel global operations

To meet the aggressive timeline while keeping the high security protocols at the forefront, the project was divided into three coordinated logistics operations to ensure the exhibition could be reinstalled on schedule in Tokyo.

In addition to trucking scenic exhibition structures and merchandise, the priceless artifact collection was transported aboard a chartered aircraft and accompanied by escorts across the entire move. Additional security personnel were engaged to oversee transfers, while dedicated courier support was provided for national officials.

To further reduce risk and protect cargo integrity, specialists traveled directly to the airport to build custom airline pallets, ensuring the sensitive materials remained secure and traceable. Throughout the operation, more than 30 personnel actively monitored every stage of the move from origin to destination for complete control and continuous oversight.

THE RESULTS

A seamless international exhibition relocation delivered with complete security

The exhibition was successfully relocated from Germany to Japan within the required four-week timeframe, giving the installation teams plenty of time to prepare for the Tokyo opening.

Every artifact, exhibition piece, and merchandising asset arrived safely and securely, despite the complexity of the operation and the strict security obligations.

The success of the project reinforced the client’s confidence and longstanding partnership with our team, which has led to other global relocation projects, including Houston, San Francisco, Paris, Sydney, and London.

Today, we continue to support the global tour, helping transport one of the most commended exhibitions to audiences across the world.
