What do you get when you take two ICAT offices and one shipment?
One of MDT’s first opportunities after joining ICAT was to handle an import from Austria. Prior to joining ICAT, they had never been able to handle international shipments, and now having that capability, they were eager to assist their customer. One of their new customers was in a bind as another forwarder they had previously been dealing with told them at the last-minute they could not help. They were importing a 22,000 lb. compressor, with dims of 264′ x 96′ x 138′. There were many challenges, not to mention the time constraints. Because of the size of this shipment, it was difficult to find a steamship line that had space available and could call the Port of Baltimore. Other challenges were clearing customs in a timely manner, moving the shipment to and from the inland ports, and getting this shipment offloaded with a crane in downtown Washington D.C. As a result of the teamwork with ICAT BWI, ICAT MDT, and our international agent, STL Logistics, we were able to deliver direct to the show and on-time. Our customer was able to sell three more machines just like this one during the show! Congratulations to MDT as they now have a very satisfied customer, and we were able to move the shipment to California at the end of the show!
